No messing about. Here are my hobby goals for 2018...

• Paint Terminators
• Prime and paint Helbrute
• Prime and paint more Contemptor
• Build, prime and paint some warpsmiths
• Paint Terminator Lord
• Paint Land Raider
• Paint the Skuldrake

Imperial Guard

• Paint the Stormhammer
• Paint two Valkyries

Inquisition Stuff

• Build up some more inquisitor stuff and warbands

Deathwatch

• Build and paint the marines in the deathwatch box
• Build and paint the tyranids in the deathwatch box

Orks

• Paint 3 Big Gunz
• Paint Stompa
• Paint 10 Meganobz
• Repaint 2nd ed dread
• Repaint all my 2nd ed Goffs and Grots (dear god why do I want to do that)
• Finish off 2 battlewagons

2017: A Year in Review

2017 over and done with. How did I do on the hobby front? 

33

33 models painted. Not that great considering I managed 100+ last year, but then again I did buy a house in the middle of summer so quite predictably that put pretty much anything not house related onto the back burner. I've not painted, well, anything since then. I moved in in early December and I haven't got my hobby stuff unpacked yet. But then again, I'm not suffering from a lack of motivation or anything. In fact my mind is surging with 40k possibilities! I need to sort a hobby space out. The new Necromunda stuff is making me feel funny.

The Blog

The top 10 posts of my blog feature 8 from 2017. This is pretty cool. I am still pretty keen on blogging being my main outlet for 40k stuff, although various people I follow on twitter and what not seem keen to put their blogs on hiatus or whatever. I fully intend to keep on blogging.

The Hobby

The Good

• Made awesome (for me anyway!) progress on my Iron Warriors. A box full of painted kit makes me very happy. This army is now pretty much wrapped up.
• Found some awesome ideas on yaktribe, in particular this stuff about a vertical hive. Defo going to pinch that idea. By the way, this site and community is fantastic and very welcoming.

The Bad

• Not enough games. Only played a couple
• I miss my Orks

The Ugly

• Still not played Dystopian Wars. Will do one day. This is the same as last year. Plus Spartan games unfortunately shut up shop.

I found out this year that one of my uni buddies is a stealth 40k fan. After a catch up on messenger, we kind of agreed to have a game. This is awesome

More Helbrutes

My motivation to paint my bikers was quite diminished, so i decided to build up a Helbrute that I got for crimbo - and it isn't even dreadtober! As a bonus I dug out a spare dark vengeance spare Helbrute that I got for a few quid on ebay and decided to have a go at some cutting and shutting with some of the vast amount of spares from the 'proper' Helbrute to see if i could create something that was not obviously identical to the normal chap.

I did a bit of greenstuff work to make it a bit more rotten, but I don'y seem to have any photos of this stage. I would defo recommend converting up a second Helbrute. Approx £40 for two Helbrutes is a pretty good deal I would say!

Iron Warriors Bikers

Oh boy its been a while since I had anything worth posting, but I have finally put the finishing touches to my Iron Warriors biker squad, and now they are ready to roll out and bring their beef to their enemies in true Sons of Anarchy style.

These guys started out as the Ravenwing bikers from the Dark Vengeance box set. Considering that I got them pretty much at the dawn of 7th edition, and now 8th is just around the corner, it is serving as warning not run off and buy the new box set. Don't get me wrong, the new minis look stunning, but neither of the factions appeal to me. I have pledged by chaos allegiance to the Sons of Perturabo and having just about amassed a decent collection I really think it would be a bad idea to get distracted by the new and shiny. But anyway, I digress.


Anyway, with a lick of paint (Plus they are even based!) they are done. I want to apply a coat of varnish seal the deal, but its pretty darn close.

In other news, I saw Maiden when they played Liverpool, which was ace..

Warhammer Fest 2017

Last weekend I made the trip down to the Ricoh Arena to check out some awesome stuff. An all round boss day was had. I spent some money. I saw some cops tooled up with guns. These sorts of events are really good for topping up the hobby motivation. Not that I really needed it this time!

This titan assembly hall is stunning. The new industrial scenery stuff is so flexible. I can't wait to get some.
